The fashion industry grapples with the growing influence of Generative AI (GenAI) on design, exploring its potential benefits and risks. While AI is already used in various aspects of the luxury market, concerns remain about its impact on creativity and the human element.

The debate over whether Generative AI (GenAI) will replace fashion design ers has intensified since The Kooples partnered with Imki to create a fully AI-generated capsule collection. While AI is increasingly integrated into luxury brand operations, from product placement to client communication, there are concerns about AI's impact on creativity.

Luxury brands remain cautious about allowing software to design clothing and imagery, fearing it might diminish the unique artistic vision of human designers. Gonzague de Pirey, chief omnichannel and data officer at The Kooples, acknowledges GenAI's growing role in the design process but emphasizes that it should be used thoughtfully and not replace human creativity. He argues that luxury consumers value the emotional connection and experience that human designers bring. While AI tools can assist in tasks like generating mood boards or 3D design iterations, the core focus should remain on the designer's vision and ability to communicate it effectively
