A monumental comeback is underway as Jack Dorsey, co-founder of Twitter (now X), has personally provided funding for diVine, an ambitious project dedicated to resurrecting the beloved short-form video platform, Vine. The new venture, led by former members of the original Vine team, is not just rebuilding the app, but has secured the entire original Vine video archive. In 2022, Elon Musk reportedly wanted Twitter to reboot Vine.
This is huge news for digital culture. The original Vine, which shuttered in 2016, was a legendary incubator for a generation of creators and established the six-second video format. Its archive contains billions of iconic, culturally significant clips - many of which were thought lost or existed only as fragmented re-uploads. By integrating this archive, diVine promises to be the definitive home for both new content and priceless digital history.
