Bulgari unveiled its latest high jewelry collection on Monday night with a show beneath the Sicilian stars. Lisa, Priyanka Chopra, and Viola Davis were just a few of the glittering guests who wore necklaces from the new collection on an evening at Taormina’s ancient Greek theater that kicked off with a dance performance overseen by Sir Wayne McGregor, the acclaimed choreographer of the Royal Ballet in London.
Bulgari creative director Lucia Silvestri once again showcased her imaginatively daring approach to high jewelry in designing the collection, named Polychroma—or “many colors”—which paid homage to the house’s Roman roots with an array of dazzling stones.
The collection has five milestone high jewelry wonders. One of Polychroma’s standout pieces, featuring a magnificent 241.06-carat emerald—the largest faceted stone Bulgari has ever set—already made its red-carpet debut earlier this month on Chopra at the Met Gala.
Another, named the Bulgari Cosmic Vault, features a 123.35-carat Sri Lankan sugarloaf sapphire in a deep and intense royal blue tone along with 331 buff-top sapphires carefully chosen for their peculiar shades of blue, along with 13 diamond drops.
The Bulgari Celestial Mosaic necklace is set with a central 131.21-carat spinel from Tajikistan—the world’s fourth largest—and features a kaleidoscope of hues, from the deep turquoise of a very rare tourmaline to the multicolor mosaic of buff top emeralds, onyx, and diamonds.
All told, it was a celebration of color, craftsmanship, and innovation, worn by some of the world's most fabulous women.
