On Friday February 7, cosmetics giant L'Oréal announced that it was taking a minority stake in independent fashion brand Jacquemus and entering into “an exclusive beauty partnership” to create fragrances for the brand. L'Oréal's stake is 10% for “just under 100 million euros”, according to a source close to the deal.

L'Oréal should launch the first Jacquemus beauty products within 18 months, the time needed to develop a fragrance. A year ago, the group acquired the Miu Miu license, and should launch its fragrance in the second half of the year.

In 2024, L'Oréal posted sales of 43.48 billion euros, up 5.6%, but the group's fragrance sales were up 14%, group CEO Nicolas Hieronimus told AFP.

“I am extremely delighted to have convinced Simon Porte Jacquemus, this incredible creative genius, to welcome us for an exclusive development,” said Cyril Chapuis, managing director of L'Oréal Luxe.

Miu Miu and Jacquemus “have potential”, according to him, “all the couture brands are extremely dynamic (in fragrances): Saint Laurent, Prada, Valentino, Margiela, Armani, Mugler...”, he added.

The Jacquemus couture label, founded in 2009 by Simon Porte Jacquemus, is particularly popular with fashionistas and celebrities, and its shows are eagerly awaited.
