Tiffany & Co is opening a new public art exhibition at Selfridges this week, titled Windows of Wonder. The installation will span the full length of the luxury department store, featuring specifically commissioned works by renowned figures in British contemporary art. Pieces by Damien Hirst, Rana Begum, Jason Bruges and James Righton will sit alongside impressive window displays that have been inspired by pieces in the Tiffany & Co archives.
With more than 130,000 people walking past the Selfridges Oxford Street store every day, the project will see the windows transformed into an accessible and inclusive art gallery, where passersby can take in diverse perspectives on love, design and creativity.
To celebrate the opening of the exhibition, the jewellery brand is staging guided gallery tours on Friday 27 or Saturday 28 September, from 11am to 6pm – with no booking required. As well as participating in the audio-guided tour, those visiting will also be able to pick up a gift from Tiffany & Co.
Tiffany & Co has a longstanding history in supporting and celebrating contemporary artists. One of the house’s most recent collaborations was with Daniel Arsham, who worked in partnership with the popular Japanese franchise, Pokémon. The collection was inspired by Arsham’s exhibition in Japan, A Ripple in Time, and his ‘Future Relics’ aesthetic, where he reimagines everyday objects as archaeological discoveries from an imagined future.
Paloma Picasso, the jewellery designer and daughter of Pablo Picasso, has also worked closely with Tiffany & Co. Some of her projects include the ‘Graffiti’ collection, which was inspired by the art of New York City, all captured in the designer’s own handwriting. Meanwhile, her Olive Leaf collection was inspired by the olive groves near her Morocco home, paying tribute to a symbol of peace, hope and harmony.
The Tiffany & Co Windows of Wonder exhibition will run from 26 September to 20 October. To visit, head to Selfridges via through the Duke Street Entrance.
