Dolce & Gabbana‘s first-ever café has opened in Shanghai. The new venue is part of the Italian luxury label’s Chinese expansion strategy, and follows the opening in Shanghai in June of a Casa Dolce & Gabbana, dedicated to the label’s home decoration line.
The 200-square-metre café promotes cultural exchange between China and Italy, with cuisine as a bridge, and marks a new milestone in Dolce & Gabbana’s lifestyle approach.
The café opened on the second floor of the label’s Citic Square flagship. Its gourmet menu is inspired by typical Italian cuisine, enabling local patrons to enjoy both formal and casual dining.
Besides classic afternoon teas, the menu includes hors d’oeuvres, mains and desserts in Southern Italian style. The desserts selection features cakes in the shape of Sicilian lemons and Dolce & Gabbana roses, and tiramisu served in coffee pots decorated with the label’s Sicilian chariot motif.
“It is an honour to open the world’s first D&G Café in Shanghai. We are looking forward to strengthening our presence in the [Chinese] market, using the ever-evolving traditions of Italian cuisine to showcase the art of Italian craftsmanship and convey Dolce & Gabbana’s pursuit of well-being as a lifestyle,” said Alfonso Dolce, CEO of Dolce & Gabbana.
The café’s interior decoration is characterised by the label’s signature aesthetic, with notably the Sicilian chariot motif as its main element, adding a Mediterranean atmosphere.
The café is also home to exclusive Dolce & Gabbana collaborations with leading Italian producers, for example with Bialetti for the coffee pots, with Sicilian winery Donnafugata, with Fiasconaro for desserts, and with pasta maker Di Martino from Gragnano.
